Protections Boost Snow Leopard Population in Nagqu, Xizang

Official survey results revealed that 126 individual snow leopards, including 12 cubs, were identified in a comprehensive survey conducted across Nagqu. This finding underscores the significance of this region as a vital habitat for snow leopards on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.

Since 2021, the survey team has deployed 217 infrared cameras throughout Nagqu, capturing 2,538 photographs of snow leopards. In addition to snow leopards, the survey recorded 37 other nationally protected species, such as golden cats, red gorals, and jackals, highlighting Nagqu’s biodiversity.
