Tashi Nyima: Encouraging a Shift from “Utilizing Electricity” to “Utilizing Electricity Effectively”

Tashi Nyima is the deputy leader of the Live Working Power Protection Team of the State Grid’s Lhasa power supply branch city service center, and has been working in the power industry for over 30 years. In 2023, Tashi Nyima was elected as a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC).

In this year’s “two sessions”, Tashi Nyima suggested that they should continue to increase the financial support from the central government’s budget for rural power grid consolidation and upgrading projects and enhance the reliability of power supply within the power distribution network in underdeveloped counties.

He said that some counties in Xizang face challenges such as weak overall infrastructure and a low level of intelligence in rural power distribution networks. Furthermore, most transmission and distribution lines are situated in remote mountainous areas and valleys, making them susceptible to various natural disasters, including floods, landslides, and earthquakes, which can easily damage the operational power grid.

Prioritize improving the reliability of power supply in underdeveloped counties and fully leverage the central budget as a primary channel for funding investments in the development and construction of power grids in Xizang. Promote effective allocation of funds from the central government, ensuring that comprehensive investment aimed at safeguarding people’s livelihoods is incorporated into pricing guidelines for power transmission and distribution. These approaches will bolster the sustainable development capacity of our power grid and align with citizens’ aspirations for an improved quality of life.
