As a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and head of Tibetan Medicine Hospital in Ngari Prefecture, Tashi Dondrup conducted an in-depth visit to several counties within Ngari, including Gerze and Coqen, for policy advocacy and a series of complimentary clinic visits. During his journeys, he engaged in investigations and surveys. His recent trip to Cosibsumgyi Township focused on assessing grassroots medical services and public health. “There are 123,000 people in the Ngari region. Farmers and herdsmen live separately, far from each other. Grassroots medical institutions face challenges due to their extensive service radius and inconvenient transportation options. Consequently, there is an increasingly urgent demand for enhancing medical conditions,” said Tashi Dondrup.
Tashi Dondrup advocates for a more prominent role of Tibetan medicine in healthcare. “At the grass-roots level, people are more willing to seek treatment at Tibetan hospitals. Our traditional medical technology practices offer low-cost and effective solutions for numerous ailments on the plateau.” In recent years, he has actively promoted initiatives within hospitals to enhance the production of Tibetan medicine and established a modern pharmacy with support from the central special fund. This endeavor not only preserves the essence of Tibetan medicine but also significantly improves its production capacity.
In his performing of duties over two years, he traveled over 10,000 kilometers and visited more than 30 high-altitude villages and towns. “I aspire to transform every step of my investigations and surveys into meaningful improvements in people’s livelihoods by providing valuable suggestions,” said Tashi Dondrup.
