The Newu New District in Lhasa is situated at the intersection of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Airport Expressway, National Highway 318, South Ring Road, and West Ring Road. It is a newly developed urban area created to support the construction of Lhasa Railway Station on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, expand the development space of Lhasa, and alleviate population and traffic pressures in the main urban area.
