From July 15 to 17, Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region held a three-day event to unveil large Buddha thangka paintings. On the first day, with chanting of sutras and dharma instruments, the 40-meter-high, 38-meter-long giant thangka of the Buddha of Amitabha was slowly unveiled.

In Tibetan Buddhism, the Buddha of Amitabha is considered the “Past Buddha”. From July 16 to 17, the monastery unveiled a thangka painting of Sakyamuni Buddha (Present Buddha) and Champa Buddha (future Buddha) respectively. Tashilhunpo Monastery has been the residence of successive Panchen Lamas and is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
