Chongyang Festival, also the Double Ninth Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. In Chinese folklore, the number nine is the largest number - it's a homonym to the Chinese word jiu, which contains the auspicious meaning of "a long and healthy life".

Since ancient times, Tibetans has the virtue of respecting and caring for the elderly, which has been carried out in modern times. In many of their festivals, there are habits of showing their respects to the elderly. For example, on the Eve of the Tibetan New Year, when the whole family eats "gutuk" (flour cooked in yak broth with beef, radish, milk dregs and other nine ingredients), they always invite the elderly to eat the first bowl first.
