Where there are nomads, there are tents on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. For centuries, living in black tents has been a dominate way for herdsmen on the plateau, thus black tents become a "living fossil" of the nomadic culture and history on the plateau. Made of yak hair, those tents shelter herdsmen from wind and rain and provide warmth to them.
