111 Representative Highland Plant Species from Mount Segyi La Featured in a New Book

2026-09-17  | China Tibet Online

A popular science book, Secrets of the Himalayas: An Illustrated Guide to Common Plants on Mount Segyi La, was recently published in Nyingchi, Xizang. The book features 111 representative highland plant species discovered on Mount Segyi La, which is known as the “World Botanical Museum.” It helps fill some gaps in public science education about local plant species and is a significant achievement in translating highland scientific research findings into public science education.

Mount Segyi La is located in Nyingchi, Xizang, and is part of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains. Segyi La Mountain Pass is one of the high-altitude passes along the Sichuan–Xizang route. Nyingchi is known as a “natural museum of Tibetan medicinal herbs,” with nearly 2,000 plant species found across the region, including more than 700 common species. The highland plants of Mount Segyi La are not only an ecological treasure trove but also traditional resources for safeguarding health, providing more opportunities for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
