Sixteen students from Kong Fansen Primary School in Gar County, Ngari Prefecture, Xizang Autonomous Region, dressed in traditional Tibetan attire, arrived early at Tian’anmen Square to watch the national flag-raising ceremony. “My dream has come true,” said student Padma Tashi. He described the experience as “seeing my textbook come to life.” “When I was in first grade, I saw Tian’anmen in my textbook. Until I came to Beijing for this study tour as a fourth grader, I had never seen it in person. Today, I finally have, and I’m so happy.” For the children, Tian’anmen had long existed only in the illustrations of their textbooks. Now, the scene they had once imagined had unfolded vividly before their eyes. 

After the flag-raising ceremony, the teachers and students gathered in front of Tian’anmen to take group photos. Tashi Drolkar asked her teacher to take a few extra pictures. Before I left home, my parents kept reminding me, “When you get to Tian’anmen, be sure to take lots of photos to show us when you come back,” she said. For her parents, seeing the real Tian’anmen and witnessing the solemn moment when the Five-Star Red Flag rises over the nation’s capital had long been a cherished wish. 

Each photograph captured not only the children’s radiant smiles, but also a shared aspiration carried across mountains and rivers—a dream that had finally come true.
