The Chinese central government has earmarked more than 700 million yuan (about 102 million U.S. dollars) for the repair project of Tibetan monasteries since the 1980s.

- Four mountaineers from the joint mountaineering team of China University of Geosciences and Japan's Kobe University successfully ascended on Nov. 7 the No. 2 peak of Tibet's Runi Peak at an altitude of 6,805 m.
