The 20-year-old Losang Tashi has come to the Tashilhunpo Monastery just after graduating from his primary school in Xigaze in 2000 and this "Me Generation" lama insists on his religious belief as well as enjoys his modern life.

Losang Tashi was only an apprentice---without any red cassock, in his first year there and he became a formal lama after passed the exam one year later as he really contributed himself onto sutra-study.

"I was really not familiar with the temple life when I just came here, but now I can read the sutra and become familiar with the people here. I have good time here," said Losang Tashi.

At 6:00 on the morning, Losang Tashi patters at the main hall of the monastery together with other lamas and his life begins from the sutra-reading every morning. Losang Tashi has Zanba and ghee tea offered by the monastery as his breakfast.

Two hours later, Losang Tashi comes back to his hall for another two-hour pattering and then he goes to the monk dormitory to prepare for the lunch.

At 15:30, Losang Tashi continues sutra-study in his hall and he also has two classes of history and culture of Tibet every week. Every night, Losang Tashi goes over what he has learnt and gets some own understanding.

From his time-table, we can see that Losang Tashi spends every whole day on sutra-study. "This is the must-doing for a lama and I will do it well," said Losang Tashi.

The life seems simple, but Losang Tashi also has his own fun such as sending message by mobile telephone. One month earlier, Losang Tashi got a mobile telephone as gift and it cost him 50 yuan for sending messages to friends. "It is convenient to contact with friends via mobile telephone and I can send message both in Tibetan and Chinese," Losang Tashi said.

Together with his friends, Losang Tashi will go to the Tibetan noodle restaurant or tea shop every Sunday when he takes a holiday. He also enjoys the Tibetan-language teleplay very much.

Losang Tashi can sing some popular songs and he was a fan of Andy Liu when he was in his primary school. Although Losang Tashi becomes a lama now, he still favors some songs of Andy Liu.

Losang Tashi really loves the basketball competition and he can't miss any match of Yao Ming. "I know many sports stars, such as Yang Wei, Phelps, Guo Jingjing and Bolt, the guy runs really fast," Losang Tashi tells the reporter.

Losang Tashi says pop music and teleplay are just entertainment of his life. "I know what I should do as a lama and I will try hard to study sutra to get the degrees for Tibetan Buddhism."
