Tibet's first eye center opens

On June 29, the first ophthalmology center of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region was opened after seven years of preparation in the region’s Tibetan hospital in Lhasa.

Affected by special regional environment and natural conditions, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has become a high incidence area of various eye diseases in China. Before the introduction of western medicine, the hospital was only able to treat cataract with traditional Tibetan acupuncture.

Today, the number of ophthalmic medical staff in Tibetan hospital has reached 26, with an annual 80, 000 outpatients, accounting for 85 percent of the whole region, and the operation volume even accounts for 90 percent of the whole region.
