On the occasion of the upcoming “World Premature Births Day”, a four-wheel drive transshipment ambulance from Beijing, which had been modified with mainland professional medical treatments, braved the snow and arrived at Bayi Hospital in Yushu, Qinghai, northwest China on November 17. It was a gift presented to the newly established Qinghai Province Yushu City Critical Care Neonatal Rescue Center.

Yushu City, in the southwest of Qinghai Province, stands at an average elevation of 4,493.4 meters. The area is sparsely populated and the high elevation climate is cold and lacks oxygen. Combined with difficult transportation conditions here, these factors threaten the lives of local pregnant women and newborn babies. The transshipment ambulance from the Beijing Lianyi Charity Foundation has been specially designed for the Yushu Bayi Hospital and will play an important role in guaranteeing the safety of maternal mother and new borns.

Not only that, in order to improve the survival rate of babies born prematurely in Yushu and the surrounding areas and the ability to treat neonatal diseases, the Beijing Lianyi Charity Foundation has also donated 4 million yuan towards the construction of the only maternal mother and child ward in southern Qinghai and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that is equipped with the best equipment in China. It is specially fitted with breastfeeding kits for treating afflicted children. In addition, the Neonatal Hearing Screening Room at Yushu Bayi Hospital is nearing completion and will soon be put into operation.

An official at Yushu Bayi Hospital said that the completion of the Critical Care Neonatal Rescue Center is not only a milestone in Yushu City’s medical system, but also a gift on the occasion of “World Premature Births Day”.
