Bird lovers at Qinghai Lake.

May is the best season for bird-watching at Qinghai Lake. For better ecology and the ecosystem of the lake, during this peak tourism season, the Bird Island and Sand Island scenic spots will not be open to the public; instead, the Erlangjian District and Maiden Bay District will be open.

Qinghai Lake is the largest inland lake and saltwater lake in China. The Bird Island district is a crucial part of the Qinghai Lake Bird Island International Wetland. The number of birds breeding here including brown-headed gulls,bar-headed goose, and cormorant, account for 60% of the world’s total.

As a critical breeding habitat for water birds, the Bird Island at Qinghai Lake has almost around 60 thousand birds breeding annually, and about 100 thousand migrated birds overall. This year, over 20 thousand birds of more than 40 species have already arrived to breed at the Lake.
