Since 2016, Lhoka has lifted 57,844 impoverished people, nearly 15% of the city’s total population, out of poverty.

Lhoka is known as the cradle of Tibetan culture. In the past five years, the city has been developing local industries such as growing highland barley and fruits and breeding cows, Tibetan chickens and Tibetan pigs. These programs have helped 16,850 impoverished residents get out of poverty. Employment training programs have helped 1,730 disabled people get jobs or start individual businesses.

On top of these, local residents are now leading a better life through building relocation sites for impoverished people, and upgrading infrastructures.
