Kalsang Wangmo and her elder sister Dekyi Drolma are pioneers in reducing poverty through growing greenhouse vegetables and fruits in Bainang County of Shigatse, Tibet.

Kalsang Wangmo, 26, graduated from the Lhasa-based Tibet Vocational and Technical College in 2017. She returned home and joined her sister in running a greenhouse business with the local government’s financial support in student entrepreneurship.

After three years of efforts, the sisters now have built 13 greenhouses and one vegetable store. They also established a farmers’ cooperative, providing opportunities for local farmers, especially impoverished people, to raise their incomes.

Mentioning the future plan, they said they are determined to expand their market further to sell vegetables and fruit grown by local farmers in Bainang County directly to the downtown of Shigatse and even Lhasa.
