On September 11, the Shannan City Museum in Tibet Autonomous Region officially opened. It had a total investment of 73.54 million yuan (10.8 US dollars).

The Museum was formerly the Lhoka Yarlung History Museum, which was built in 1995 and was the first national museum in Tibet Autonomous Region. In 2015, the state invested in the construction of museum exhibition halls, and in 2017, it approved the establishment of the Shannan City Museum Institution.

Local residents visit the museum.

It is understood that the Shannan City Museum spans a total area of 5,700 square meters. Its main functions include four permanent exhibitions, including the Lhoka History Exhibition, Folk Customs Exhibition, Traditional Art Exhibition, and Documents Exhibition. It also includes temporary exhibition halls as well as a 4D cinema hall, a cultural and creative product market, office space, and multi-function halls.

At present, there are a collection of more than 4,000 cultural relics in the museum, of which 120 are precious cultural relics. This is the largest number of cultural relics in all prefecture-level museums in Tibet.
