Ren Yonglu, deputy director of China's Sanjiangyuan National Park Administration, said at a press conference held by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration on January 8 that China will officially establish the Sanjiangyuan National Park in 2020.

Ren Yonglu said that after more than three years of work, the effectiveness of ecological protection and restoration of the Sanjiangyuan National Park experimental area has become increasingly apparent. In the area, there has been an average increase in water conservation of more than six percent, an 11 percent increase in grassland coverage, and a 30 percent increase in grass yields.

It is reported that the experimental area of the Sanjiangyuan National Park is also exploring the community co-management model to create posts for each household in the park to encourage them to protect the ecology, with a total of 17,200 herdsmen have been hired. The average annual income for each household has increased by 21,600 yuan (3,149.2 US dollars).

Sanjiangyuan National Park is located in Qinghai Province and includes the source areas for the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers. The total area of the park is 123,100 square kilometers, and it has an average elevation of 4,713.62 meters. It is a large-scale wetland ecosystem that is unique to high-altitude regions of the world.
