The 3rd International Seminar on Himalayan Regional Studies was held on June 8 in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Nearly 60 experts and scholars from China and Nepal attended the seminar.

In the opening speech, Rinchen Norbu, president of the Nepal-China Kailash Culture Promotion Development Association, pointed out that the “Belt and Road” initiative will provide a new impetus for the development of the Himalayan region. In this process, however, due to different political systems, social systems, ethnic groups and religions etc., there are also risk factors. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen communication and cooperation, eliminate the sources of risks, and avoid the formation of risks.

During the two-day event, experts and scholars attending the conference presented seven special reports on relevant topics. Among them, Gonpo, the head of the China’s Tibet magazine, discussed exchanges of Tibetan Buddhism between China and Nepal and pointed out that relevant parties should further focus on the common goal of cultivating personnel in Tibetan Buddhism as well as further enhancing the level of cultural exchanges between Tibetan Buddhists. This will continue to write a beautiful chapter in the history of Buddhist exchange between Nepal and China.

Professor Uprety, a professor of anthropology at Tribhuvan University in Nepal, introduced the history and current situation of indigenous villagers of Limbus in the eastern part of Nepal and explored the space and direction of future development for Nepal’s ethnic minorities.

Relevant personnel from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal also attended the seminar.
