Zhaluo, Deputy Director General of the China Tibetology Research Center: During the period of reform and opening up, the pace of development in Xizang lagged behind that of the eastern regions. However, since 2012, Xizang’s development speed has not only caught up with but also surpassed that of the entire country. The most significant achievement during this time was our success in poverty alleviation. By the end of 2019, all 628,000 registered impoverished individuals in Xizang were lifted out of poverty one year ahead of schedule. We accomplished the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals a full decade in advance, which is an extraordinary feat. When I attended a meeting at the United Nations, representatives from various developing countries praised us upon learning about our achievements in poverty alleviation, regarding it as a remarkable human miracle.

I went to Tingri County and Lhatse County in 1994 and 1995. After my visits, I felt a profound sense of sorrow. In Lhatse County, I encountered families living in extreme poverty, lacking even basic bedding. Today, we spend approximately 20 days each year in the countryside of Xizang. Each household now has a refrigerator and spacious accommodations. Currently, car ownership in Xizang is notably high, leading the nation. These accomplishments have garnered recognition from around the world.
