Tibet Airlines’ passenger throughput exceeds 5.3 mln in 2018

On January 2, Tibet’s Aviation Bureau announced that in 2018, the passenger throughput for Tibet Airlines has reached 5,319,968, with a total of 46693 flights, and cargo throughput of almost 40 thousand tons.

According to the announcement, the Lhasa Gonggar Airport had a passenger throughput of 4,353,948 and a cargo throughput at 36,173 tons.

Chamdo’s Bangda Airport had a passenger throughput of 325,065 with 3,311 flights, and cargo throughput at 1,097.6 tons. The Mailing Airport of Nyingchi had a passenger throughput of 484,506 with 5300 flights, and cargo throughput at 2,231.4 tons.

For Ngari’s Kunsha Airport, there was a passenger throughput of 75,100 with 933 flights, and cargo throughput at 17.4 tons. At the Shigatse Airport, there was a passenger throughput of 81,349 with 976 flights, and cargo throughput at 269.3 tons.

Currently, Tibet operates five freight airports, including Gonggar of Lhasa, Bangda of Chamdo, Mailing of Nyingchi, Kunsha of Ngari, and Shigatse, as well as 11 aviation companies with 86 flight routes and 47 destination cities. During the “13th Five-Year-Plan,” Tibet’s Aviation Bureau plans to build airports in Lhunze of Shannan, Tingri of Shigatse, and Purang of Ngari to continue to perfect air traffic control, telecommunications, navigation facilities and equipment, and to improve aviation capacity and safety.
