According to the Tibet Autonomous Region Mountaineering Association, in Tibet there are five peaks over 8,000 meters, more than 70 peaks over 7,000 meters, and thousands over 6,000 meters. There are currently 46 peaks open to climbing.

In recent years, Tibet has welcomed and co-organized more than 20,000 climbers from more than 40 countries including Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, and Korea, obtaining good economic benefits. In the past few years, Tibet has acted as a professional association, actively exploring the development of characteristic plateau mountaineering industry and guiding farmers and nomads from mountainous areas to participate in mountaineering services, thus broadening their income channels.

It is learned that farmers and nomads from mountainous areas continue to earn incomes from participation in mountaineering services. The accumulative total of their incomes reaches 25.70 million yuan (3.7 million US dollars).
