People in Nyemo Township, Nyemo County, Tibet hang new prayer flags on the mountain.  

On January 9, Nyemo County in Tibet entered the third day of the local Tibetan new year. According to tradition, Tibetans erected prayer flags on tops of mountains and on the roofs of their homes in the early morning, praying for good weather and a good harvest in the new year. In the farming regions of Shigatse, Tibet and Nyemo County in Lhasa, where people mainly grow highland barley, there is a tradition to celebrate the Tibetan New Year one month earlier, so that they would not miss the farming season. Therefore, it is called “Farmers’ New Year”.
