SF Airlines has been approved to commence air cargo services to Lhasa Gongga Airport, the company said Saturday.

Based in Shenzhen in southern China's Guangdong Province, SF Airlines plans to open a regular air cargo route from Chengdu to Lhasa with B757-200 air freighters.

SF Airlines, the aviation branch of SF Express, has 44 freighters, China's largest air cargo fleet.

The altitude of Lhasa Gongga Airport is 3,600 meters with complicated geography and changeable weather, necessitating some modifications to the aircraft.

With its nationwide and global network, SF Airlines has transported around 2 million tonnes of cargo since operations began in 2009.
