Grapes help Derong County fight poverty
As one of the four main plateau wine production sites in Sichuan, Derong County of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has a natural advantage in grape-production.
After Qingyang District of Chengdu City was matched with Derong County as a poverty-fighting partner, the district has given a total of 30 million yuan over five years, with each year six million yuan, to the county in project funding. From grape orchards, the construction of wineries, to marketing and operations, support was provided across the entire industry chain, helping Derong become a “world-renowned plateau winery.”
The wine industry has helped achieve a win-win for both poverty-stricken households and leading enterprises. On one hand, leading corporations get excellent supply of grapes; on the other hand, poverty-stricken households have no worries of the sales of their grapes or the sale prices.
As of present, there’s a total of 5260 mu of grapes planted in Derong County, with grape production at 734 tons, generating 50 million yuan, and adding 1670 yuan in income for every resident in the grape-production area.
