A senior Chinese official has called on Asia-Pacific countries to safeguard peace and security in the region.

In his speech at the 24th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of China's National People's Congress, called on all member countries to strengthen the mindset of shared community of destiny and be dedicated to the partnership of mutual trust, tolerance and cooperation.

Chen also urged the member countries to make full use of the APPF platform.

The APPF is a mechanism that enables parliamentarians to discuss issues of common concern, and to deepen their understandings of the region and the interests and experience of different countries.

A total of 113 lawmakers from 20 member countries and an observer country attended the four-day meeting that concluded here Wednesday.

At the sessions, the delegates adopted 27 resolutions and confirmed that the next summit will be held in Fiji in January 2017.

A meeting of women lawmakers, the first of its kind in APPF history, was held Sunday to foster dialogue and enhance collaboration on issues of importance and on gender equality.
