Without notice, the year of 2009 is coming. Looking back to the past year, Tibet Autonomous Region and its people witnessed all the tremendous changes and improvements as well as disasters and riot it faced with. In front of the door of 2009, we would like to list the top 10 biggest events of Tibet in 2008 and wish a big step-forward for TAR in 2009.

March 14 Lhasa Riots

On March 14, 2008, violent crimes took place in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, and some other places which led to deaths of several local citizens and policemen.

2008 Olympic Torch Relay onto Mt. Qomolangma

The Beijing Olympic flame reaches the peak of Mt. Qomolangma (Everest), the world's highest peak with an altitude of 8,844.43 m. at 9:18 am, May 8, 2008, which is the first time that the Olympic flame ascends the peak of Qomolangma.

Earthquake Jolts Damxung, Tibet

An earthquake measuring 6.6 degrees on the Richter scale shaked Damxung County of Lhasa in Tibet Autonomous Region, at 16:30 Oct. 6, China Earthquake Networks Center reported.
