Gansu Province is located in northwestern China with its capital in Lanzhou. Gansu lies between Qinghai, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the Huangtu Plateaus, and borders Mongolia to the north and China's Xinjiang to the west. Gansu has one Tibetan autonomous prefecture: Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture: The prefecture has an area of 45,000 square kilometers and a population of 664,300 with 33.93 percent of them Tibetans.
